PEMS & CEMS

Predictive Environmental Monitoring Systems (PEMS) and Continuous Environmental Monitoring Systems (CEMS) can both play a role in your operation's environmental monitoring strategy. CEMS is ideal for monitoring processes of high variability while PEMS can offer lower ongoing operational costs. EAPL are experts in both PEMS and CEMS products and can design an approach that best suits your business's regulatory obligations and budgets.

Implementing PEMS & CEMS

DURAG is one of the most successful manufacturers of environmental solutions in the world with a focus on dust, flow, environmental and process data management systems. DURAG DATA SYSTEMS have more than 1500 DataCEMS PEMS installations around the world providing industry with continuous acquisition, calculation, visualisation and storage of emission data. DURAG and EAPL have partnered for more than 8 years in Western Australia providing installations throughout Western Australia. EAPL will continue this work with DURAG to provide you a complete and seamless end to end CEMS/PEMS solution.

PEMS & CEMS Services

  • Selection and Supply of PEMS or CEMS Solutions

EAPL supplies and installs DURAG monitoring equipment, including Predictive Emission Monitoring Systems (PEMS) and Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS). EAPL can design systems for process pollutant emissions monitoring such as Dust and VOCs, combustion gas monitoring with a focus on NOx tuning and provide automated custom built regulatory reporting of pollutant emission concentration and mass emission rates.

  • Verify Measured Data

Our experts can verify the accuracy of the data generated by CEMS and PEMS against internationally and nationally recognised standards; you can have confidence in reliable information. EAPL is NATA accredited to implement Relative Accuracy and Correlation programs including for (but not limited to): Stack volumetric flow temperature and moisture, Total Particulate Matter, SO2, CO, NOx, O2 and CO2.

  • Quality Assurance Planning

We provide ongoing operational verification testing to ensure regulatory approval and compliance. This will generally form part of the CEMS/PEMS QAP which EAPL can develop and audit. When you work on a CEMS/PEMS solution with EAPL we want to built an ongoing support relationship that enables the ongoing effectiveness of the implemented monitoring strategy.

  • Reportable Regulatory Compliance

EAPL verify PEMS via implementation of US EPA PS-16 standard while CEMS are managed in accordance with WA CEMS Code, State regulatory licence instruments and US EPA PS-11.

Verified PEMS Applications

EAPL have assisted clients in oil & gas, mining and power generation to transition away from CEMS to the lower operating cost alternate, PEMS. Our 8-year partnership with DURAG DataSystems is proven to successfully verify PEMS for regulatory monitoring purposes; aiding our clients to meet legal obligations while reducing operational budgets.

EAPL has successfully implemented PEMS Solutions for

  • BHP Yarnima – PEMS install and verification
  • Synergy Kwinana – PEMS remodel and install verification
  • Ongoing RATA, RAA & QAP support
  • Customer and regulatory driven automated environmental reporting

Join the trend and measure the environment in real-time with intelligent and predictive monitoring technology.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between CEMS and PEMS?

Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS) refers to automated instrument measurements conducted continuously. Measurements are carried out within the stack, e.g. cross-duct opacity monitoring, or extractive sampling may be used with an instrument permanently located at or near the stack.

Predictive Emission Monitoring Systems (PEMS) are implemented for exhausts with stable characteristics. A PEMS is a mathematical model derived by correlating simultaneous plant inputs with reference method-tested pollutant concentrations. The model is run continuously to determine pollutant concentrations in real-time. PEMS has the advantage of having a lower OPEX and CAPEX when compared to CEMS.
